02 · Why Canada
Why the data has to stay in Canada
Public bodies usually have the clearest rule of anyone: personal information stays in Canada, and often in the province. That has kept most AI tools off the table. This API processes in British Columbia, keeps no copy, and comes with a written addendum that answers the vendor questionnaire.
The rules that usually apply:
- BC's FIPPA and equivalent public-sector privacy laws in other provinces govern where a public body's personal information may be stored and accessed.
- Records law requires you to know what a vendor keeps; here the answer is token counts and timestamps, never content.
- Procurement policy often allows a small fixed monthly cost under a discretionary limit where a metered cloud contract would need a full process.
- The US CLOUD Act lets US authorities compel US companies to hand over data they hold, wherever it is stored.
What happens to what you send
- Processed in memory on hardware in Burnaby, BC, and never written to disk.
- Never used to train or improve any model, never shared.
- Kept per request: timestamp, token counts, timing. Never the text.
- Written down for your privacy officer in the Data Processing Addendum.

The Data Processing Addendum covers most of what those ask: where data is processed, what's kept, subprocessors, breach notice, security measures. Send me yours and I'll complete it.
Is one machine enough for a department?
For analysis, screening and rewriting jobs, comfortably: the Business plan is about 130,000 pages a month. It isn't built for a public-facing chatbot with uptime commitments; I'll say so if that's what you need.
